DOCTORS CONTACT INFORMATION -Spring 2008

The following is a list of doctors who have come to my attention from looking through the internet. This has happened from a combination of the following:

  • articles reporting on their procedures and success rates,

  • positive mention in bulletin board posts,

  • my own analysis of claims and techniques.

I have not researched these doctors thoroughly, and I have not double-checked their contact information. And I certainly do not know the field well enough to know about all the other capable practitioners that are out there. So when you must do your own investigation of those on the list and of others you hear of to determine how well they can treat your type of AF.

Any list of competent doctors will change over time. One of the conventional criteria for choosing a doctor is to pick the one that has done the most procedures-- or a sufficient number of them. The latter group will get bigger as more doctors get more practice. And, as techniques become easier to learn -- possibly by depending more on robots or other technology -- experience may become less critical.

* I believe all are associated with the Cleveland Clinic. Drs Hao and Hongo are at their Marin Country, CA branch. The number is (415) 925-7000 , and Dr Pinski, is at the Florida satellite.

I will mention one other possibility for your consideration. You may have read or heard that places like India and Thailand are catering to foreigners who need medical procedures at reasonable prices compared to the cost in their home country. There is no reason to doubt that the practitioners in these hospitals have or will gain expertise as in the USA. As in the USA or anywhere, one must be selective and ask the right questions.

One such place is Escorts Heart Institute in India. They are reportedly experienced in catheter ablation and are forthcoming about success rates.
